SPLIT INSTALLATIONS

SPLIT SYSTEM AIR CONDITIONING BRISBANE

A Split Air Conditioner consists of an outdoor unit and an indoor unit, connected by pipes containing refrigerant gas. Refrigerant is dispersed through the copper pipes that cycle through the system to generate either heated or cold air. The outdoor unit is installed on or near the exterior wall of the room that you wish to cool. This unit houses the compressor, condenser coil and the expansion coil or capillary tubing.

Split Systems Air Conditioners are great for keeping Brisbane apartments, single rooms in homes or small office spaces cool in summer and warm in winter. They are affordable and energy-efficient. They are also the most common air conditioner type in Australia in homes without ductwork and are good for a room or open plan area up to about 60 square metres. The single system works well within a small area providing adequate heating or cooling. Using it along with other sources can make your home that much more comfortable.

A big benefit to split air conditioning systems is the option to expand the system with additional air outlets for other rooms. Each has its own thermostat allowing for individual control to turn on or off as needed.

TYPES OF SPLIT AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS BRISBANE

INVERTER SPLIT AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM BRISBANE

An inverter model means that the compressor is powered by a variable speed drive or ‘inverter’, which enables the compressor to run at a range of speeds from slow to fast, to match the output required.  An inverter split system regulates the room temperature by graduating the speed of the compressor motor, similar to using the accelerator on your car to remain at a constant speed. The biggest difference between inverter and non - inverter air conditioning is the fact that the motor of the inverter compressor has a variable speed. A censor in the invertor adjusts the power according to the temperature in the room, lowering the electrical consumption and saving energy.

REVERSE CYCLE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM BRISBANE

A reverse cycle air conditioner can heat as well as cool. It is one of the cheapest ways to heat your home in colder seasons.

In cooling mode, a split-system air conditioner extracts heat from the indoor air and transfers it outside, via the refrigerant gas in the pipes connecting the indoor and outdoor units. The outdoor unit releases the heat and pumps the cold refrigerant back to the indoor unit where the cycle continues.

In heating mode, the process is reversed, to extract heat energy from the outdoor air and sends it indoors, producing heating instead of cooling.

COOLING ONLY AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM BRISBANE

If you only need an air conditioner for cooling in summer (for instance, if you live in an area with mild winters or you already have another heating system), then a cooling-only air conditioner could be right for you. They're generally cheaper than reverse-cycle models but usually have all the same features.

CHOOSING SPLIT AIR CONDITIONING UNIT BRISBANE

Before having your split system installed, you need to choose the most appropriate unit for you. This is when you need the expert services of a specialist. Call or email one of our friendly staff now and we will help you choose the best air conditioner for your home. When selecting an air conditioner we will consider the size of your home, type of room where it is going to be installed.

Here's our rough guide to the air conditioner capacity you will need for a particular room size.

Room size Capacity
Up to 20 sq m 2–2.5kW
20–40 sq m 2.5–5kW
40–60 sq m 4–6kW
60–80 sq m 5–7kW
80+ sq m 6–9kW

That is the approximate guide, but you need to do an accurate calculation before buying your air con, or else you'll run into following issues. Models too powerful for the room size may run frequent short cycles to achieve the target temperature. This can result in the room getting too cold or hot, inadequate dehumidification, increased power use and running costs, and wear and tear on the system. Underpowered models may have to run more often at maximum output, which could dry the air too much and also create excessive wear.

A proper calculation takes all the room's details into account:

  • The size of the room: length, width and height.
  • The type of room: living room, open-plan living room and kitchen, bedroom, etc.
  • The size and orientation of the windows and glass doors. A large north- or west-facing window can let in a lot of heat in summer.
  • Shading and curtains on the windows.
  • Insulation of the floor, ceiling, and walls.
  • The local climate.
