Smoke alarms must be installed in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on each storey. If there is no hallway, they must be positioned between bedrooms and the rest of the storey.

Photoelectric smoke alarms use a light sensor to detect smoke. Queensland’s 2027 requirements call for compliant photoelectric alarms, not ionisation alarms.

Yes. Existing private homes, townhouses, units and manufactured homes in Queensland need compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027.

Interconnected smoke alarms are linked so that when one alarm sounds, all alarms in the home sound together.

Wired alarms are commonly used where existing hardwired alarms must be replaced or where the property requires mains-powered alarms. Wireless interconnected alarms may suit many existing homes where compliant 10-year battery alarms are allowed. The electrician confirms the correct option after checking the property.

Wired or wireless alarms may be used at Lawson Air’s discretion based on legal requirements, site conditions and electrician judgement. Valid within 20km driving distance of Lawson Air Mansfield. Extra distance, non-standard layouts, extra alarms, difficult access or additional electrical work may incur extra cost. Promotion ends 1 January 2027 unless otherwise specified.
